Every war, every act of violence, and every form of extremism begins long before the battlefield. They start when dialogue, trust, and the sense of belonging within a community begin to disappear.
For this reason, peace cannot be built only by governments or international organizations. It is first and foremost nurtured in cities, neighborhoods, schools, sports associations, places of worship, and families.
Islam teaches that a believer should be a source of safety and security for others. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
«”A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands people are safe.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari; Sahih Muslim)»
This principle is not limited to Muslims; it is a universal value that benefits every human being. A safe society is built when every individual feels responsible for the common good.
The Holy Qur’an also reminds us:
«”Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and generosity toward relatives.”
(Qur’an 16:90)»
For this reason, municipalities play a fundamental role. They are the institutions closest to citizens and can encourage dialogue between cultures, promote sports, support volunteer work, strengthen interfaith cooperation, and create meaningful opportunities for collaboration.
The European Muslims League believes that preventing hatred and radicalization cannot rely solely on laws and security measures. It also requires initiatives that foster mutual understanding, respect for the rule of law, civic responsibility, and active participation in community life.
Sporting events, cultural activities, educational programs, and partnerships between public institutions and civil society are practical tools for strengthening social cohesion and preventing future tensions.
Being a good citizen means respecting the laws of the country in which one lives, contributing positively to society, and setting a good example for future generations.
Peace does not happen by chance. It is built every day through responsibility, mutual respect, solidarity, and sincere cooperation.
It is within local communities that the foundations of a safer, more just, and more humane future for everyone are laid.
