The Municipality of Kon-Yambetta, located in the Centre Region of the Republic of Cameroon, has approved an official resolution of the Municipal Council authorizing institutional cooperation with the World Organization of the States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP), an intergovernmental organization (IGO) committed to promoting cooperation among institutions and supporting initiatives dedicated to peace and stability among peoples.
The decision, adopted during an official session of the Municipal Council, represents a significant step toward strengthening international cooperation between local communities and initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue among cultures and peoples.
The municipal resolution recognizes the importance of international initiatives that foster cooperation and dialogue and authorizes collaboration with WOS-IPSP within programs and activities dedicated to the promotion of peace, development, and relations among communities.
Among the provisions included in the resolution is also the institutional support for the international initiative “Kick War Away – Un Calcio alla Guerra”, a sports diplomacy program promoted at the institutional level by WOS-IPSP and operationally organized by the European Muslims League (EML), an international association committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation among communities.
Regarding the decision of the Municipality of Kon-Yambetta, Alfredo Maiolese, Secretary General of the World Organization of the States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP) and Ambassador at Large of the same intergovernmental organization, as well as President of the European Muslims League (EML), expressed his appreciation.
“We particularly welcome the decision of a municipality in a country such as Cameroon, whose population is predominantly Christian and Catholic, to collaborate with WOS-IPSP, an intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting peace and cooperation among institutions, and at the same time with the European Muslims League, a Muslim civil society organization active in dialogue and cooperation among communities.
This choice represents a concrete sign of mutual respect among different religions and cultures and demonstrates how cooperation between civil institutions and organizations belonging to different spiritual traditions can strengthen understanding, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation among peoples.”
In his remarks, Maiolese also emphasized that cooperation with the Municipality of Kon-Yambetta represents a concrete example of collaboration between local communities and international organizations committed to promoting peace.
“Cities and local communities today play an increasingly important role in building international cooperation. Through cultural, social, and sports initiatives such as ‘Kick War Away – Un Calcio alla Guerra’, it is possible to strengthen dialogue among peoples and promote values of respect, solidarity, and peaceful coexistence among different cultures and religions.”
The initiative of the Municipality of Kon-Yambetta is part of a broader framework of international cooperation involving cities and local communities from different countries committed to promoting peace, intercultural dialogue, and cooperation among institutions.
