The European Muslims League (EML) announces the launch of a consultative process aimed at establishing a Council of Imams residing in Italy, with the objective of strengthening religious coordination, promoting unity, and fostering a shared approach to key aspects of Islamic life within the Italian context.

This initiative arises from a growing need within Muslim communities to overcome fragmentation and differences linked to external references, and instead to build a vision rooted in the European and Italian reality, capable of combining fidelity to Islamic principles with respect for the country’s legal and social framework.

Among the first topics under discussion is the determination of the beginning of the month of Ramadan and major religious observances, with the aim of reaching, through dialogue among qualified and recognized imams, shared criteria that may serve as a unified reference for the faithful.

The project is grounded in the values of religious and civic responsibility, recognizing the role of imams not only as spiritual guides but also as interlocutors in dialogue with institutions and society, within a framework of integration, mutual respect, and social cohesion.

The European Muslims League, as an organization committed to dialogue and cooperation, intends to support this process in an inclusive and gradual manner, encouraging the participation of imams across the national territory, and valuing their competencies, educational backgrounds, and roots within local communities.

The objective is to contribute to the development of a conscious and responsible European Islam, capable of expressing unity within diversity, providing clear guidance for younger generations, and promoting a constructive and positive presence within Italian society.
