On the occasion of the International Day for Digital Learning promoted by UNESCO on March 19, it is essential to reflect on the role of technology in education and its growing impact on contemporary societies.
Digital education has become a fundamental tool for access to knowledge, personal development, and social progress. However, it requires a responsible approach that combines technological innovation with ethical values, ensuring inclusion, equity, and respect for cultural and religious identities.
The expansion of digital platforms has significantly increased learning opportunities, enabling millions of students worldwide to access educational resources regardless of geographical barriers. At the same time, there is a pressing need to build safe, reliable, and respectful digital environments that protect human dignity and prevent risks related to misinformation, social isolation, and inappropriate content.
Particular attention must be given to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, whose role in education is rapidly expanding. It is crucial that these tools are developed and used in accordance with shared ethical principles, ensuring transparency, fairness, and equal access for all.
In this context, the European Muslims League (EML) reaffirms the importance of promoting an educational model that integrates digital competencies with moral values, fostering a balance between technological progress and individual and collective responsibility. Education should not be limited to the transmission of technical knowledge, but must contribute to shaping conscious individuals capable of using digital tools in an ethical and constructive manner.
Communities, families, and educational institutions play a key role in guiding younger generations toward a balanced and responsible use of technology, ensuring that innovation remains at the service of humanity.
In an increasingly interconnected world, digital education represents not only a challenge but also a valuable opportunity to strengthen dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding among peoples.
Statement by Alfredo Maiolese
President, European Muslims League (EML)
On the occasion of the International Day for Digital Learning, I would like to emphasize that education remains one of the fundamental pillars for building just, aware, and peaceful societies.
The ongoing digital transformation offers extraordinary opportunities to expand access to knowledge, but it also requires a profound reflection on how these tools are developed and used. Technological progress must always be aligned with ethical values and social responsibility.
As President of the European Muslims League, I firmly believe that education must remain accessible to all and grounded in principles of equity, respect, and inclusion. Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, must serve humanity and contribute to the strengthening of communities.
It is essential to promote safe and trustworthy digital environments that respect the dignity of every individual, especially younger generations, who represent the future of our societies.
I therefore call upon institutions, educators, and families to work together in building an educational model that harmonizes innovation with values, ensuring that digital tools become instruments of knowledge, dialogue, and peace.
Only through shared commitment will we be able to transform today’s challenges into concrete opportunities for a better future.
