On the occasion of Earth Day 2026, the European Muslims League (EML) renews its commitment to promoting a culture of responsibility, sustainability, and peace, grounded in shared ethical values and respect for human dignity.
The protection of our planet represents a moral responsibility that transcends cultures, religions, and peoples. Safeguarding creation is not only an environmental issue but also a spiritual and human duty that calls every individual to act as a guardian of the Earth entrusted to humanity.
As stated in the Qur’an:
“Do not cause corruption on the Earth after it has been set in order” (Qur’an, 7:56).
In the current context, marked by climate change, environmental crises, and growing inequalities, it is increasingly evident that environmental protection is closely linked to social justice and peace among peoples. Caring for the planet means caring for humanity.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“If the Hour (the Day of Judgment) is about to be established and one of you has a sapling in his hand, if he is able to plant it before it happens, let him do so.”
This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” highlights a shared responsibility among institutions, religious communities, and citizens, inviting everyone to contribute through concrete actions toward a sustainable future.
The European Muslims League emphasizes the essential role of religions in promoting a culture of responsibility toward creation, encouraging environmentally respectful behavior and a balanced and conscious way of life.
In this perspective, international initiatives such as “Kick War Away – Un Calcio alla Guerra” demonstrate how dialogue, sport, and cooperation can unite communities while promoting values of peace and respect for our common home.
EML invites all religious communities, institutions, and citizens to renew their commitment to protecting the planet, aware that responsibility toward the Earth is a responsibility toward future generations.
Protecting creation means building peace.
