On the occasion of the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, established by the United Nations General Assembly and promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the European Muslims League draws attention to the shared duty to protect the environment, public health and human dignity.
Clean air is an essential good for every human being. Protecting it means safeguarding children, older persons, families and all communities, especially those most vulnerable to the effects of pollution.
In the Holy Qur’an, Allah reminds humanity of its responsibility towards the world in which it lives:
“Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned.”
The Holy Qur’an, Surah Ar-Rum, 30:41
And again:
“Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right.”
The Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-A‘raf, 7:56
These verses are not a modern environmental slogan; they express a permanent spiritual and moral principle: human beings are not absolute masters of creation, but are accountable for their actions before Allah and before the community.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, taught:
“Removing something harmful from the road is an act of charity.”
Authentic Hadith, Sahih Muslim
This simple act conveys a profound responsibility: not to cause harm to others and to contribute tangibly to the common good.
The European Muslims League invites Muslim communities, institutions, associations and citizens to promote responsible conduct: reducing waste, respecting shared spaces, supporting sustainable mobility, protecting green areas and passing on to new generations a culture of care.
Environmental protection is not separate from faith, peace and social justice. Cleaner air means healthier lives, more liveable cities and a more dignified future for everyone.
