The International Day of Cooperatives is an important opportunity to reflect on the value of cooperation, mutual support, and shared responsibility in building stronger and more peaceful communities.
The 2026 theme, “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World,” reminds us that peace is not built only through institutions or political agreements. It also grows through everyday acts of solidarity, trust, and cooperation among people.
These principles are deeply rooted in Islam. The Qur’an calls upon believers to cooperate in righteousness and goodness, encouraging a society founded on justice, compassion, and mutual responsibility.
Cooperatives provide a practical example of these values. Through democratic participation, mutual support, and social responsibility, they create opportunities for employment, strengthen local communities, reduce inequalities, and contribute to lasting social stability.
The European Muslims League (EML) supports every initiative that promotes cooperation among people of different cultures, religions, and backgrounds. We believe that dialogue, social justice, and shared responsibility are essential foundations for lasting peace and sustainable development.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
«”The believer to another believer is like a building whose different parts support one another.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)»
This noble teaching reminds us that strong communities are built when every individual contributes to the well-being of others. Cooperation is therefore not only an economic model but also a moral and spiritual responsibility.
