In his recent remarks, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, urged the international community to choose peace over chaos, drawing attention to the growing risks arising from conflicts, polarization and decisions lacking long-term vision. This appeal does not concern States alone, but addresses global society as a whole, including religious, civic and cultural communities.
In this context, the European Muslims League (EML) reaffirms the value of peace as an ethical choice and a shared responsibility, to be cultivated not only within institutional frameworks but also within cities, local communities and everyday social life. According to the approach promoted by the President of the EML, Ambassador at Large Alfredo Maiolese, peace cannot be reduced to an abstract concept; it must instead be translated into daily practices of dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation.
Contemporary crises clearly demonstrate how the absence of listening, the radicalization of positions and the erosion of trust among people contribute to division and insecurity. In such a scenario, the role of civil society organizations becomes essential in rebuilding social bonds, fostering intercultural understanding and promoting a culture of responsibility and coexistence.
The European Muslims League has long been active in this direction, promoting initiatives of interreligious dialogue, institutional cooperation and civic engagement, grounded in the conviction that Muslim communities in Europe can and must play an active role in building peaceful, inclusive societies that respect diversity.
Choosing peace today means rejecting the logic of chaos, hatred and identity-based confrontation. It means investing in education, dialogue and moral responsibility, while valuing the positive contribution of communities as bridges between cultures, religions and institutions.
In this perspective, the European Muslims League renews its commitment to working for a peace founded on human dignity, justice and cooperation, helping to give concrete meaning to the global call to choose peace as a shared horizon for the future.
