Sport represents one of the most universal and inclusive languages of contemporary society. This principle underpins Un Calcio alla Guerra – Kick War Away, an initiative conceived by Alfredo Maiolese and operationally organized by the European Muslims League, which uses football as a tool to raise awareness on issues of peace, civic coexistence, and intercultural dialogue.
The project has involved Italian and foreign municipalities, local administrations, and civic organizations, demonstrating how territorial communities can play an active role in building a culture of peace. Through sporting events and institutional moments, the initiative encourages encounters among people of different backgrounds, cultures, and faiths, transforming sport into a space for dialogue, mutual respect, and shared responsibility.
The experience highlights that peace is not only the outcome of formal agreements, but also the result of participatory processes that emerge from the grassroots and engage citizens, young people, and local institutions. In this sense, the commitment of the European Muslims League is part of a broader European and international vision that recognizes dialogue as a concrete instrument for social cohesion and cooperation among peoples.
