The European Muslims League (EML) expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Father Amir of the State of Qatar, a distinguished leader who guided one of the most significant periods of growth and modernization in the country’s history and whose vision left a lasting impact on the Arab and Islamic worlds.
During his reign, from 27 June 1995 to 25 June 2013, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani led a comprehensive process of modernization that transformed Qatar into a nation internationally recognized for its economic development, diplomatic leadership, and growing contribution to multilateral cooperation. At the same time, Qatar invested extensively in education, scientific research, culture, healthcare, and human development, strengthening its role as a bridge between the Islamic world and the international community.
Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has continued this path, reinforcing its commitment to dialogue among peoples, humanitarian initiatives, and the promotion of peace through diplomacy. The country continues to play an important role in supporting populations affected by crises and in facilitating mediation and international cooperation.
Among the most significant milestones of this journey was the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first FIFA World Cup ever held in the Arab world and the Middle East. Beyond its sporting significance, the tournament represented a historic cultural milestone, offering millions of visitors the opportunity to experience the heritage, values, and hospitality of the Arab and Islamic world.
Commenting on the passing of the Father Amir, Ambassador Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League, stated:
“With the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Islamic world loses a leader who played a fundamental role in Qatar’s remarkable development and in strengthening its position within the international community. The European Muslims League extends its heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Qatar, praying that Almighty Allah grants the Father Amir His infinite mercy and bestows patience, strength, and comfort upon his family and the entire nation.”
