On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, the European Muslims League (EML) renews its appeal for the international community to strengthen its commitment to protecting children’s rights and combating all forms of exploitation, abuse, and human trafficking.
Millions of children around the world are still deprived of their right to education, safety, and a peaceful childhood. In many regions, poverty, conflict, social instability, and lack of opportunities force entire families to rely on the labor of their children, exposing them to serious risks to their physical, psychological, and moral well-being.
Islam teaches respect for human dignity and places particular emphasis on the protection of children, orphans, and the most vulnerable members of society. Any society that seeks to build a future of peace and justice must ensure that young people have access to education, protection, and the opportunities necessary to fully develop their potential.
Father Marco Baragli, Head of Anti-Human Trafficking Initiatives at WOS-IPSP, stated: “Behind every child forced to work lies a story of vulnerability that challenges our conscience. Combating child labour means restoring dignity, hope, and a future to millions of young people who deserve to grow up free from exploitation and fear.”
The President of the European Muslims League, Alfredo Maiolese, stated: “Every child is a gift entrusted to the responsibility of all humanity. We cannot accept that poverty, war, or injustice deprive the youngest among us of their fundamental rights. Defending childhood means defending the future of our societies and fulfilling a moral duty that belongs to all people of goodwill.”
The European Muslims League calls on religious communities, institutions, civil society organizations, and citizens to work together to promote educational programs, initiatives supporting vulnerable families, and concrete actions to prevent child exploitation.
On this day, the EML reaffirms its commitment to human dignity, social justice, and the protection of children, so that every child may grow up in a safe environment, receive a proper education, and look to the future with hope and confidence.
