European Muslims League (EML) | 16 October 2026
On the occasion of World Food Day 2026, the European Muslims League (EML) calls upon governments, international institutions, religious communities and civil society to strengthen their commitment to fighting hunger, protecting human dignity and promoting global solidarity.
Despite scientific progress, technological development and the enormous resources available worldwide, hundreds of millions of people continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity.
Behind these figures are children who go to sleep hungry, families struggling to survive and entire communities deprived of one of the most fundamental necessities of human life.
Hunger is not merely an economic problem. It is a humanitarian emergency, a question of justice and a moral responsibility shared by all humanity.
The Islamic Message: Feeding the Hungry Is an Act of Faith
Islam places great importance on caring for the poor, feeding the hungry and supporting those in need, regardless of their religion, nationality or cultural background.
The Holy Qur’an states:
“And they give food, in spite of love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive.”
Holy Qur’an, Surah Al-Insan (76:8)
This verse reminds us that true generosity is expressed through concrete actions, particularly when helping those who are most vulnerable.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught the importance of feeding others.
When a man asked the Prophet ﷺ which qualities of Islam were among the best, he replied:
“To feed others and to greet with peace those whom you know and those whom you do not know.”
Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 12
This prophetic teaching carries a universal message: compassion, hospitality and solidarity must extend beyond religious, ethnic and national boundaries.
From Religious Values to Global Responsibility
The European Muslims League believes that religious communities can play an important role in combating hunger through humanitarian cooperation, education, charitable initiatives and interreligious solidarity.
At the same time, governments and international organizations must address the structural causes of hunger, including armed conflicts, forced displacement, poverty, economic inequality and climate-related emergencies.
Humanitarian assistance must reach vulnerable populations without discrimination, and access to food must never be used as an instrument of war or political pressure.
Statement by the President of the European Muslims League
Alfredo Maiolese, President of the European Muslims League, stated:
“We cannot speak of human dignity while millions of people suffer from hunger. Feeding a child is not simply an act of generosity; it is a responsibility of humanity.
The Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, remind us that helping those in need is a fundamental expression of faith.
Hunger has no religion, no nationality and no borders. Our responsibility must therefore extend to every human being, without distinction.
Governments, international institutions and religious communities must transform declarations of solidarity into concrete actions.”
Peace, Justice and Human Dignity
The European Muslims League emphasizes that lasting peace cannot be separated from social justice and the protection of fundamental human needs.
A world in which children suffer from hunger while food is wasted elsewhere is a world that must reconsider its priorities.
The fight against hunger requires more than emergency assistance. It demands international cooperation, responsible policies, sustainable development and a genuine commitment to human dignity.
On World Food Day 2026, the European Muslims League renews its appeal to governments, religious leaders, humanitarian organizations and citizens worldwide.
Peace cannot be complete where hunger persists. Human dignity cannot be protected where access to food is denied.
Feeding the hungry is not only an act of charity. It is an act of justice, an expression of faith and a duty towards humanity.
